Music for the movement.
There's a tension in the air. Always been there, really, but now there's a palpable quality to it catapulted by the omnipresence that is social media.
I can't help but to get into a discussion every time I convene with friends, we're all discussing it, the fact that the reality of being black in America is becoming more transparent as the days go by. As the list of names of brothers and sisters killed in the name of inequity and fear lengthens.
I don't want to list the endless names of those who've lost their lives because they weren't perfect enough to live. I never want to have the conversation with my children that my parents had with me. the message always boiled down to: "You have to be ten times better than these white children to succeed". That lesson echoed within me from kindergarten until - today. I'm grateful to have been equipped with the knowledge but I want my baby heir to rock her baby hair and Afro without concern that she must be cautions about her very being in the presence of white people in order to be accepted, to be heard, to belong.
In order to secure that future for ourselves and generations to come we must organize and stay vigilant in the fight to gain something intangible but undeniably necessary: equality and respect. That's all we want.
You're Welcome, The Mix: Volume VI entitled "All Black Everything" is dedicated to the music behind the movement. These are the millennials creating the soundtrack to the new revolution. We've fought before, and we've unified through the use of lyrics, beats and rhythm, this movement will require the same.
Listen to the lyrics. Feel the aggression. Succumb to the rage. Seek the guidance. Alleviate the pain. It's all here.
#YoureWelcome and thanks for listening.
